Opening night at the MOCA Geffen of Cai Guo-Qiang to see his famous gunpowder explosion artwork. A friend had invited me so I walked into this not knowing much about the artist. Which always makes for good fun.
Turns out there were fire trucks and firefighters everywhere as thousands of us gathered around the back of the museum. We waited a few moments and without warning there was a huge explosion that sort of made me temporarily deaf. I felt the power of the fireball. Once the smoke cleared the remnants of the explosion is the charred art left on the building. And that is what makes this artist unique and one of the highest paid artist in the world.
